We photograph artwork, and optimize and prepare images for print reproduction. We work with artists, galleries, private collections, and museums around the world. Our services include high resolution digital photography, and post production to provide the best quality image for each piece.
Photographing art for reproduction is actually a two part process; part one is the actual photography, and part two is the post production, which includes Photoshop adjustments, image sizing and enlargement, cropping, color correction, and a test print on each surface to be used.
How we can help:
Photographing Artwork: We have photographers in the NYC area, and in southern CA, with more to be added. Our photographer will have the correct lighting and camera equipment, and technical knowledge, to produce high resolution, color correct images of your artwork, either on location at your premises, or at their own studio. If you choose to do the post production yourself, we will supply you with high resolution .tiff, .jpg, and raw files of each image for your use, within 72 hours of the shoot.
Preparing Images for Print: Once you have high quality images, you must prepare them for print reproduction. This generally involves cropping, color and exposure correction, and formatting to a predetermined pixel size and aspect ratio, and is usually done with software like Photoshop, On 1 Resize or Topaz Gigapixel. Once formatted, it is best to make a test print, as this gives the best idea of how colors, density, contrast, etc., will look on paper.
In this post production aspect there are many variables to answer, for example; what aspect ratio and sizes should be available? What size are the images, and will they need to be enlarged using software? And, how will the image look on paper? A test print on a standard paper like Epson Luster will give a very good example of how an image will look on paper.
