We photograph artwork, and optimize and prepare images for print reproduction. We work with artists, galleries, private collections, and museums around the world. Our services include high resolution digital photography, and post production to provide the best quality image for each piece.

Photographing art for reproduction is actually a two part process; part one is the actual photography, and part two is the post production, which includes Photoshop adjustments, image sizing and enlargement, cropping, color correction, and a test print on each surface to be used.

How we can help:

Photographing Artwork: We have photographers in the NYC area, and in southern CA, with more to be added. Our photographer will have the correct lighting and camera equipment, and technical knowledge, to produce high resolution, color correct images of your artwork, either on location at your premises, or at their own studio. If you choose to do the post production yourself, we will supply you with high resolution .tiff, .jpg, and raw files of each image for your use, within 72 hours of the shoot.

Preparing Images for Print: Once you have high quality images, you must prepare them for print reproduction. This generally involves cropping, color and exposure correction, and formatting to a predetermined pixel size and aspect ratio, and is usually done with software like Photoshop, On 1 Resize or Topaz Gigapixel. Once formatted, it is best to make a test print, as this gives the best idea of how colors, density, contrast, etc., will look on paper.

In this post production aspect there are many variables to answer, for example; what aspect ratio and sizes should be available? What size are the images, and will they need to be enlarged using software? And, how will the image look on paper? A test print on a standard paper like Epson Luster will give a very good example of how an image will look on paper.

 How does it work?

  • Option 1: We will do everything for you. We will photograph your artwork, either at your studio or gallery, (providing you have adequate space), or ours, with the highest quality digital cameras and lighting equipment, in a color correct environment. We'll then process the images, color correct, exposure correct, crop, size or enlarge, convert to .tif and .jpg, and make an 8.5" x 11" Epson Premium Luster test print for  your approval. Upon receiving the test print, there is one round of revisions at no charge. Once approved, we will deliver the high resolution images to you. $100/image, minimum order $500
  •  Option 2: You provide us with digital images. We will assess their quality and let you know if they are suitable for reproduction. If they are not, we can advise on how to proceed to obtain the best quality images. If they are, we'll process the images, color correct, exposure correct, crop, size or enlarge, convert to .tif and .jpg, and make an 8.5" x 11" Epson Premium Luster test print for your approval. Upon receiving the test print, there is one round of revisions at no charge. Once approved, we will deliver the high resolution images to you. $50/image, minimum order $250.
  • Option 3:  You provide us with digital images. We will assess their quality, and let you know if they are suitable for enlargement and reproduction,. If so, we will re-size, crop, and optimize them for reproduction, but with no color correction, revisions, or test print. We will then deliver the high res images to you. $25/image, $250 minimum.
  • Option 4: This provides a convenient solution for artists, galleries, and collections who prefer to handle the post-production work themselves. With this option, we photograph the artwork using high-quality digital cameras and lighting equipment in a color-correct environment, either at your location (providing you have adequate space) or ours. The photographs are then delivered to the client in their original raw, .tif, and .jpg files. This service is available for $50 per image. However, there is a minimum order of $350 if the photography is done at our studio and $500 if done on location. With Option 4, artists can have their artwork professionally photographed and retain control over the post-production work.

  • All photography services are available for artwork up to 40 inches wide. For larger artwork sizes, a custom estimate will gladly be provided.

For Galleries and Collections, please contact us for a custom estimate for your project.

It's important to note that the information provided above is specific to 2D artwork. For 3D artwork or installations, etc., the artist or gallery will need to contact the company to receive a custom estimate.

Do you have digital images, but aren't sure of their quality? Or older digital images? Send them to us for a free appraisal of their usability.

As an artist, a professional photographer, Photoshop expert, a member of Art Storefronts, and frequent user of Bay Photo, we are especially well equipped to help guide you through this process. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions.
